THE REGISTERED COMMUNITY NURSING (RCN) PROGRAMME

The Registered Community Health Nursing Programme is one of the three nursing program of Nurses' Training College, Ho.   It was established in September, 2013 with the aim of training multipurpose health workers for the district and sub-district levels of the health service.

It is a three year Diploma in Community Health Nursing program which is analogous to the Registered General Nursing and Registered Midwifery programs and provides continuous professional development pathway for preventive health care.

This program is essentially Community oriented, relevant to the health problems of the country and with the goal to increase community access to health care.

SUBJECT COMBINATION
The curriculum is competency-based and takes into consideration the current needs of the society and those of the student nurse.   Greater emphasis is on the community-physical and social sciences, the spiritual and ethical elements in nursing practice.  Additional topics and updates in safe motherhood and current disease trends in society are also included.

The program was developed along the semester course unit system and effectively integrates the new educational reforms in the country to enhance upward mobility in the nursing health care system.

The Registered Community Health Nursing programme has seasoned and qualified tutors with Public Health Nursing and other nursing professional background including other staff for effective student training in the College.

This program is expected to improve and promote community access to health care through intensive field work and experiences at school and after school to cover the immediate and the entire population of the nation.    This will ultimately include other nations as well.

The Registered Community Nursing (RCN) graduate is committed to rendering effective nursing care to the entire population of the country.  I wish to encourage parents and guardians to send their brilliant children and wards with nursing at heart to pursue RCN education in Nurses Training College, Ho
